At Vita Centre, volunteers play a vital role in supporting our programs and helping vulnerable families thrive. We are committed to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for both our clients and volunteers. As such, all volunteer applicants go through a thorough screening process.
Our screening process includes:

- Completion of a Volunteer Application
- A preliminary interview with a Vita Centre team member
- Reference checks for selected candidates
- A current (within 90 days) Vulnerable Sector Check is required prior to starting

Volunteer Opportunities:
Volunteer Community Fridge Helpers
The Volunteer Community Fridge Helper is directly involved in the distribution of food (and other items with staff discretion) to our client families. This role operates in shifts on Fridays – AM (9 – 12.30) and PM (12.30 – 3.30).
Bingo Attendant
The Bingo Attendant will be responsible for representing Vita Centre at bingo fundraisers. The volunteer would need to communicate effectively with the bingo staff, pleasant with the bingo players and able to be self-directed for a two-hour period.
Child Minding Attendant
The Child-Minding volunteer is responsible for attending to the children while parents attend programs. They will be responsible for guiding and assisting the children in playing and interacting with each other, informing parents when their child requires the bathroom or a diaper change, and cleaning when the children are reclaimed by their parents.
Care Closet Organizer/Donation Sorter
This volunteer position will be filled on an as need basis. The donation sorting volunteers assists sorting the items received as donations. This includes diapers, wipes, formula, clothes, nursery furniture, food products, school supplies and much more. They will be responsible for organizing the care closet and making informed decisions on the quality and viability of donations.
Delivery Drivers
This role requires access to a vehicle and possession of a valid driver’s license. The volunteer delivery drivers are responsible for picking up and delivering food items (Good Food Boxes) to clients at the home addresses provided. Pick up of the GFB is Fridays from Vita Centre, Mississauga from 9 am. Volunteers may also be requested to assist with other deliveries as the need arises.
Student Placements
We welcome placement students from programs such as:
- Social Services
- Child and Youth Work
- Family Services
- Community and Justice
We are also open to students from other disciplines who are passionate about supporting families and making a difference. International students and adult learners are encouraged to apply as well.
